SCULPTURE by Don Griffith
Many of these sculptures are cast in bronze. The process begins when Don sculpts his idea in wax. Then he takes his final original wax to a foundry where a mold is made for multiple waxes. The molds are sunk into a slurry basin which hardens into a hard shell strong enough to stand up to hot molton metals. Bronze is poured into the shell. Once the bronze has cooled, the shell is cracked off with a hammar. Then all the bronze pieces are seamed together in the tool room. The final touch is the patina (or finish) which is selected by the patina artist and Don Griffith.
