Through travel, I became intrigued with people in foreign lands. Reflected in their faces and posture I saw their heritage and individual strength of character. This inspired me to pursue figurative art after painting landscapes for twenty years.
Today, I strive to portray individuals from varied cultures and activities showing their individuality and uniqueness. I also like to show specific emotions and places that will stimulate the view of my art to have vivid memories of their past.
My artistic spirit thrives on pursuing several media, which stimulates and challenges me to continually improve my techniques. With sculpture, I enjoy the three-dimensional process, using wax and clay, to give definition in form and texture to express feeling and movement. When painting, I use mixed media, such as acrylic, watercolor and pencil, to accomplish a feeling of depth as well as detail. For expressive portraits, I use colored pencils, which allow me to create fine detail and realistic skin and hair tones.
